How to Create Balance, Energy, and Strength through the Root Chakra

Muladhara, the root chakra, provides a rich life force to live and work vibrantly.
It's located at the base of your spine, and is the first of the seven primary chakras in Hindu tantrism. Symbolized by the red lotus with four petals, the red energy of the root chakra is powerful.

According to the Chopra Center, “The Word Muladhara breaks down into two Sanskrit words: Mula meaning 'root' and Adhara, which means 'support' or 'base'." Learn more here.

If you sense or think your root chakra is out of balance, place a red object like a pillow or blanket in your meditation space. This will help ground your spiritual energy at a practical level. Tibetan monks like the Dalai Lama often wear red robes or red shawls for this purpose. Click here to learn other ways red helps you.

Red energy fortifies you, when you need courage, self-confidence, positive love, and resolve/will-power.

Here’s a YouTube video about LAM, the sound associated with the Root Chakra. I suggest you try it as a mantra. Observe how easily sound and color bypass thinking and is absorbed at the sensory level, providing an increased sense of grounding, balance, and ease. Click here.

The root chakra energizes the feet, legs, tail bone, and affects the sex organs, urinary organs, and adrenal glands. When your legs ache or are stiff, you lack sexual desire, and/or struggle with stress, remember to call on the root chakra. It helps attract passion, and heats your body. The root chakra influences how you feel and how you act. That's why it's important to take steps to heal any imbalances you sense. For a more detailed description of "chakra" see this. Also see this. Kegel Exercises: A Proven How-To Guide.

If your intuition leads you to crave or want red foods like beets, red cabbage, tomatoes, and strawberries, pay attention. Your body is wise, beyond measure. Here's a link to learn more. 4 Key Reasons to Eat a Variety of Colorful Fruits and Veggies Each Day.

The overuse of red makes you feel or act domineering, arrogant, self-indulgent, quick tempered, impolite, and angry. Use caution with this color. A little goes a long way. Because red is the color with the longest wavelength, and it maintains a close connection to heat and warmth, it is an intense color.
